Jam Pail curling is back on Crescent Lake in Portage la Prairie thanks to a local resident.

Justyn McCabe has been clearing the skating path along the lake, and decided clear room for 4 sheets, and even painted rings and hog lines onto the ice. Portage Mayor Irvine Ferris joined McCabe for an inaugural match Saturday afternoon, and he explains why.

"I just thought it would be a good way to maybe get Portage on board, and have them understand that anyone can come out and play. We've done this pretty much every year when the kids were younger. On New Year's we've done Jam Pail curling, you fill up milk jugs three quarters full and slide them across the ice and have a whole pile of fun."

Ferris obliged the invitation, and is very thankful for McCabe's work.

"Well Justyn McCabe, the fellow that has been clearing the skating path has made a number of rinks for Jam Pail curling. It's been a long time since there's been Jam Pail curling on Crescent Lake, I think the last time was 1969 or 1970. So this is something that's nice to see be brought back thanks to Justyn (McCabe)."

McCabe adds it's a lot of fun, and open to everyone.
