EARLIER REPORTS:

Police cordoned off Oak Bay in Portage la Prairie this morning until 11:00 a.m. while investigating an early morning shooting. It's the third in less than a week. Drone footage was being filmed, disallowing people from driving or walking in the area.

Tanya Catcheway's a resident and says it's been nerve-wracking to say the least.

"You're walking on eggshells, you know. You're making sure everything's locked, and you can hear bangs. I heard (what sounded like) firecrackers going off and all kinds of bangs. You're wondering what's going on. It's pretty scary, actually. We have kids around here and they go to school early in the morning, and there are people walking around -- drunks and stuff. In the middle of the night, in the morning, we were getting ready and up at 5:30 getting ready for work. The other night (Tuesday) was 4:30. We're getting ready to go to work and warming up our vehicles, and all we can see is police lights going, blocking off this area and that area. What's going on?"

She says security used to be there 24/7 -- a foot patrol. Two would walk together around the area Catcheway says at that time the crime rate was significantly down. She says if they saw anything suspicious they'd call the police immediately. Anyone walking around drunk was dealt with right away. Catcheway says she doesn't feel safe.

"We don't drink or do drugs, and it's scary for us. Even our kids jump at every little noise. They're at home doing crafts, and I don't want to tell, 'Hit the floor!' We're worried about stray bullet coming through the glass or hitting the wall."

Kyle Catcheway says the red house on the corner was the target of the shots fired this morning.

She recounts events from early this past Tuesday morning, "And all of a sudden we heard two guys fighting, and the gunshot. And one walking by saying, 'I got shot, I got shot.' Even if it's a Monday night. It's a Monday night, Tuesday morning. Whatever happened to just weekends being wild. They don't' care nowadays."
