An incident that led to a five hour standoff in Minnedosa is under investigation.

According to RCMP Media Relations Sergeant Bert Paquet, Spruce Plains RCMP received a report of a suicidal male barricaded inside a residence on Main Street. Officers determined the man could have been armed, and after failed attempts to communicate the emergency response team was called in.

The team utilized various tactics to communicate with the subject for approximately five hours without success. Shortly after 3 am, the entered the building after firing tear gas canisters through the window, and were able to arrest the suspect.

RCMP say there were no injuries, and the suspect was treated at a local hospital. He remains in custody as the investigation to continues.
