Portage la Prairie’s own Nick Henry will have a chance to finally get a crack at the big league this season. The 21-year-old forward is attending the Colorado Avalanche’s preseason training camp where he will be competing alongside 22 other forwards for roster spots.

Henry was drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL entry draft by the Avalanche and spent last season with their AHL squad, the Colorado Eagles. In 42 games, he put up three goals and six assists for nine points.

Henry played one year in his hometown with the Terriers in 2015-16 where he totalled 61 points (25G, 35A) in 50 regular-season games. Over the next three years, Henry spent time in the WHL where he played in 194 games and scored 78 goals and 126 assists for 204 points.

If Henry doesn’t make the cut he will return to the AHL for his second season with the Colorado Eagles.
