Headingley RCMP have arrested an Ontario man after he made quite the scene at a business on the Trans-Canada Highway in the RM of Headingley.

On June 1, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Headingley RCMP received a report of a man with a knife at a business on Highway 1 in the RM of Headingley. The man was reportedly smashing things and dangerously brandishing the weapon.

When officers arrived on the scene, they immediately cleared the premises of all civilians. Officers then attempted to speak to the man, but he was highly agitated and had a large fixed blade knife.

The 39-year-old man from Ontario began to harm himself by running into fixed objects inside the business. Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon, bringing the 39-year-old to the ground, where he was promptly arrested for his safety and that of the police. The knife was seized.

The man suffered minor physical injuries from self-inflicted harm and was transported to the hospital to be treated. When the man was medically cleared, he was formally arrested for Mischief and Possessing a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.

He was released with a court date.
