The Portage Assisted Living Corporation is over halfway to its fundraising goal for the Dufferin Villas.

Last month, ex-Portagers Darren and Joanne Gunn made a $100,000 contribution, and now other local businesses are stepping up.

Mandy and Jeff Dubois of McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel pitched in $5000 for the project while Portage Toyota & RV handed out $2500 to the Corporation.

Fundraising committee member Ruth Brownridge fills us in on their fundraising totals.

"So far, our drive to one million total has reached $670,000.00. The community has been so supportive, and it's given us such confidence with people backing and supporting our project."

The housing unit will provide 53 one and two-bedroom affordable assisted housing suites for seniors. The complex will also provide two meals a day served in a dining room and light housekeeping.

Construction crews recently completed driving in 236 piles that were drilled and filled with concrete. Brownridge says there's still time for you to make your donation.

"If anyone has any questions and would like more information on donating. They could call me, or we're also on the ads on Portage Online. If you click on the banner to get more information, it will list all our board member's names and phone numbers."

Brownridge thanks the community for the support and is optimistic that the Portage Assisted Living Corporation will hit its fundraising target.
