Growing Support for Cancer Care initiative coordinator Darcy Miller says the event went off without a hitch in Elie in Ocotber.

Miller explains the event and how much they raised for Cancer Care.

"That night we feel we fed over 250 people in the Elie Community Club. There was a barbeque supper, and we turned around and had 8 combines attend that day. We harvested the crop of soybeans, all the production was sold. In the end it was just shy of $87,000 was raised, all going back to Cancer Care Manitoba for research."

Miller says something like this couldn't happen without some help.

"We strongly believe in research and what the benefits may be down the road. We won't take all the credit ourselves, Portage Agri Sales here in town, Legend Seeds Canada, and Bonnie and Bernie Chabot were all partners with us in this project. Just overwhelmed from the support we got from our partners, and that's just the start of it. This is going to continue on this project."

He adds the support from the community was outstanding and he looks forward to next year's event.
