Day 1 at the 4th Annual All Nations Tribal Days in Portage la Prairie was a big success.

The PCU Centre was busy all day yesterday with a few events including arm wresting and the annual hockey tournament. Long Plains Hockey Committee Representative Gregory Meeches says the hockey tournament had a great turnout for the opening day.

"It's actually going pretty great. We had a good number of teams this year and a good turnout with the fans. We actually had Arron Asham playing so that brought in more people. It's our 4th year and it's getting bigger as the years go by, and this year has had a lot of people, but the weekend is just getting started."

Meeches says it was a successful day for all of the events.

"I checked out the arm wrestling event. They had children arm wrestling which was kind of neat to see. They're doing it for fun and they get prizes and the end. They have pool tournaments going on at the Meyers Norris Penny building, but I haven't had a chance to see that yet. I've been here at the hockey tournament but everything is going well."

Hockey tournament coordinator Michael Haines says the hospitality in Portage has been great this weekend.

"It's been pretty busy. A lot of hockey teams have been showing up and I'd like to thank Portage for their hospitality and for hosting this hockey tournament again this year."

Tribal Days continue today and tomorrow at the PCU Centre.
