The upcoming year will see some changes to the RM of Grahamdale.

Reeve Clifford Halaburda says there will be a decrease in wards from seven to six.

"For the 2018 election coming up we're going to end up with only six councillors because part of ward 7 is going to be taken away from us," says Halaburda.

Halaburda notes now there won't be enough work for those councillors, since their numbers are decreasing.

The reeve says there were about 900 acres of land written off in the lake St. Martin area, and Little Saskatchewan First Nation claimed 22 out of 23 quarters to put into reserve status. "Other adjacent reserves will be doing the same, but they haven't moved on it yet. It's all part of the process," says Halaburda.

When asked whether this change will affect them financially, Halaburda stated, "Absolutely, we always need money."

Halaburda says right now they aren't affected, but in the future it'll make changes since they'll lose some of their tax base.
