Another week of horse racing is just a day away at the Assiniboia Downs. Owner Douglas Mustard from Gladstone is going for first-place finishes in back-to-back weeks.

Mustard had two horses compete recently, with Witt's Gato finishing in sixth place in a race on Wednesday but Vidira claimed the top prize on Tuesday. This is Mustard's first win of the year and only his third time having a horse finish in the top three in the 2022 season.

Vidira has taken part in four races so far this year with two fifth-place finishes, a third, and has now added a victory to the resume. Witt's Gato has placed top three in two of the five races they've competed in 2022.

Frank Johnson is another local owner from the Westbourne area who trains horses with his wife Betty Hughes. They also had two horses compete this past week, both of which had a silver medal performance. Dot Dash Dot finished second place in a race on Monday, while Prairie Drifter did the same on Wednesday.

Dot Dash Dot has done everything but win so far this season, with two-second place finishes, two thirds, and a fourth. This was only the second race of the year for Prairie Drifter, and both of those ended with the horse in second place.

Races will be on again this week from Monday to Wednesday at the Assiniboia Downs.
