The Portage la Prairie Salvation Army's food bank services are under review.

Cadet Kaitlin Adlam's conducting the research on what's working well, and what doesn't. She has her Bachelor and Masters degrees in Social Work, focusing on community development, and has done similar work with other organizations. Adlam says this research will have a broad scope.

"Support, how people see what's going on, what they access and what they're a part of. We provide a service, but also we provide a chance for people to get together in community, so what are we missing as a community, what do we have as a community, and what could that look like."

She plans to gather data from Salvation Army staff, volunteers, and people accessing the service.

"So anybody who wants to be part of it, that's great. We'll be doing interviews Wednesday mornings from 9 to 11, along with the food bank hours here. Interviews can also be made available by phone or e-mail."

Major Brenda Coles looks forward to the final report.

"Particularly in what clients who use the services have to say about how we're doing. I just think there's lots that we could do to elevate people around food, and I think this might give us an opportunity. I'm always excited about trying to do better, and trying to help people better.

The final report's expected in early April.
