A trip to Tim Hortons next week could help out a local organization more than you think.

The Family Resource Centre will be the recipient of the money raised throughout Smile Cookie Week, held May 1-7. Program coordinator Peter Thiessen says those at the centre were grateful to be selected for the drive.

"As many people know, we, the Family Resource Center, amalgamated with Recreation Opportunities for Kids Central Inc. (ROK) last fall to make the Portage la Prairie Family Resource Centre," explains Thiessen. "The money from this fundraiser will go to our after-school program at our outreach location."

The after-school program is a place for students to play games, learn cooking skills, try their hand at gardening, as well as make some art. While Thiessen says that this is the first time that those at the original Family Resource Centre have been selected to receive the Smile Cookie Week funds, ROK was selected in September of 2022.

"If you've got a dull meeting coming up, or a birthday party, if it's your turn to bring dessert to a potluck, or if you just have a Monday in your week, let's make all of these things a little better and get some smile cookies," says Thiessen.

The last Smile Cookie Week in Portage raised $8,369.
