A new work week is underway in Portage la Prairie, and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is preparing us for what is to come.

Meteorologist Samantha Mauti says there is a slight risk of some light snow on Tuesday, but it looks like we won't be faced with much perception this week.

"There's just a small risk of some snow on Tuesday, a couple of centimetres, but it's a pretty weak little system. So yeah, not much precipitation with it."

As we get past the middle part of the week, Mauti says temperatures will fall.

"Starting Thursday and into the end of the week, it looks like temperatures take a little bit of a nose-dive. So, we are expecting some colder temperatures than what you've been experiencing over the last little while in Portage la Prairie."

Seasonal temperatures for the middle of February are usually high throughout the day of -7 and low overnight at -18.

"The coldest night is going to be Thursday night into Friday morning," she continues."It looks like wind chills could take a dip, maybe approaching -30. Then, for the remainder of the week, wind chills overnight will be around -20."

While the accuracy varies, the extended forecast for the rest of the month is up for debate.

"As we move into that February 19 time frame and onwards, there is still quite a bit of disagreement. So, some models say the temperatures will warm up, but some others say it will continue to be colder through Portage la Prairie. We don't know yet."
