As the temperatures drop and the leaves change colours, hockey season has arrived in Arborg.

Ivan Gula, the President of the Arborg Ice Dawgs of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League, says that the Ice Dawgs are a young team, and as the season continues, he knows they will continue to grow.

Gula adds the team will be looking to build off the new hire of head coach Scott Wong.

"Scott has a lot of background with him. He's coached the Eastman team. He coached the Interlake Lightning last year. He's done a lot of coaching, so we're quite pleased with Scott. He's running great drills out there, it's awesome, and the kids are getting along really well with him. I think we're in for an exciting season."

Gula shares that he believes that all six teams in the league will be competitive.

"It is entertaining hockey, and the fans, they're going to come out. COVID is away from us right now. It's going to be amazing."

The President says the team's goal this year is to build its fan base back.

"We need fans coming out again, and I think we're going to get that. We have a lot of local talent. We're very excited with that, and the biggest thing that keeps us going as well is we have great sponsorship, and that means a lot to our entire team."

The Ice Dawgs' next game is scheduled against the St. Malo Warriors this Friday at 8 p.m. in Arborg.
