The outgoing school board chairman of the Portage School Division is putting out a plea for individuals to step up for the upcoming elections.

Days before the deadline to declare candidacy, the division is short of a full slate of names for school trustees.

Dennis Hallick stresses interest in the positions are necessary, being a critical part in the life of the community.

Finance supervisor Neill Corrigan cites three options in the event all seats aren't filled -- to continue on with the vacancies, appoint qualified individuals, or permanently reduce the number of trustees.  Hallick is uncertain if continuing on with the vacancies is any cause for concern.

Meantime his resignation, effective tomorrow, was accepted during last night's board meeting.
