The RM of Armstrong is formulating a bylaw to provide land for prospective homeowners.

Reeve Jack Cruise outlines their efforts.

"The municipality owns a few lots in the various town sites that we have. We're currently working on a bylaw to see what we have to do. Our intention is that we would give these lots away to people that were interested in building a house on them. Our CAO is currently working on getting some sample bylaws to see just exactly how we can do this."

He says the details of the bylaw have yet to be determined.

"I don't know exactly what our bylaw will look like. The intention was that we would give the lots away with a development agreement that requires a person to build a single dwelling house in two years, or I'm not sure exactly what It will end up looking like. But that's the intent."

Cruise explains the benefits.

"The benefit is twofold.  A new house on a lot in one of our towns looks a lot better than an empty lot.  Also, just all the benefits that come with having more people living in our muncipality: Increased taxation, and a few more kids for the schools."
