The Portage Industrial Exhibition Association has made some adjustments because of COVID-19 restrictions.

General Manager, Heather Greenlay, outlines whats affected.

“Presently, our buildings, grounds, and campsite are closed until May 31. We will be making decisions probably mid to the third week in May, going forward with June," notes Greenlay. "At that time, we will have to be taking a serious look at our fair, because our fair is slated for July 3-5.”

The Portage Fair is still hoping to run for the 147th edition. Greenlay says this is one of the only times the fair has been in jeopardy of being cancelled.

“We hope that we can pull off a fair of sorts this year. It’s something that looked forward to by our community, board of directors, and volunteers. It’s a big event for us, so we’re hoping we can go ahead with it in one way or another.”

She notes they’re monitoring everything daily and are staying operational, so when everything clears up, they can hit the ground running.

Greenlay adds the business has also been affected with gathering limitations.

“The (Junior A National Championship), as we all know, was cancelled this year, and I believe we had 10 sites of people coming in from Saskatchewan for the (event). We have some seasonal dates that have been put forward, as well as rentals on our buildings. There’s been socials, meetings, and family gatherings that have all been pushed forward to June. Hopefully, we’ll be able to go ahead, but we’re not too sure with how it’s looking right now.”
