The Portage la Prairie RCMP has provided an update to an incident that occurred on 20th Street Southwest.

CST Larry Neufeld is the Media Relations Officer for the Portage la Prairie RCMP. He explains what happened.

"At 6:21 a.m. on November 1st, Portage RCMP were dispatched to an address on the 20th Street Southwest in regards to an individual that had been stabbed," says Neufeld. "Officers located a 27-year-old male that had stab wounds to his upper body. The victim was transported to the hospital, and was released later that day."

He says a Forensic team had to come in from Brandon.

"RCMP maintained and held the scene until a search warrant was issued, so the forensic team could get inside the residence and take a look for further evidence concerning this offence."

He notes one person was taken into custody.

"25-year-old Brandon McIvor was arrested later that day. He is from Portage la Prairie," adds Neufeld. "McIvor was remanded into custody and was charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, and assault as well. He appeared in court on the fourth of November, and is still in custody."
