Portage Cobras scored a 2-0 victory over Landmark FC last night in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's Division 6.

The game was at Rotary Republic Park.

Nick Plourde potted both Cobras' goals.

The win solidifies their hold on first place in the division, but Player-Coach Chad Green isn't happy with how they played. He says they started slowly.

"Probably the first ten minutes, they carried the play," he says, "And then we took over from there. Right now, even though we're winning the games, we don't seem to be playing like we have to win them. We've just got to find that little bit of fire to finish out the season"

Green says they're giving their opposition too much time with the ball.

"We're not pressing them hard enough," he says, "Or when there's a 50-50 ball, we're not coming out on the winning end of it. We just don't seem to be fighting like we want these wins. I know the guys want them, but we just need to step up our game a little bit, because right now, we still haven't clinched first place, but one or two more wins, and we clinch it."

Green adds they're off until their next game on September 10th, and outlines what they'll do to stay sharp.

"We'll get a couple of practices," he says, "We'll go once a week, and that's about it. Last time we had a two week lay-off, we took some time off, and it didn't go well for us when we came back, so this time there's no time off."

The Cobras' next opponent is Grunthal, who'll host that game on the 10th.
