The Portage Terriers are now the favourite to host the 2023 Centennial Cup.

After the COVID-19 pandemic caused the 2020 edition to be cancelled, Portage la Prairie requested the ability to host a future Centennial Cup. Currently, the MJHL, CJHL, and Hockey Manitoba are all supporters of the tournament coming to Stride Place in two years' time.

In the coming months, these three organizations will work together to come up with a hosting plan for Portage which will have to be viewed and approved by the Hockey Canada board. MJHL Commissioner Kevin Saurette hopes this can make up for what happened last year.

"It was disappointing when the event was cancelled in the spring of 2020 due to the pandemic. The MJHL and CJHL are fully supportive of the request made to Hockey Canada to allow Portage the opportunity to host the event in 2023," says Saurette. "The Province of Manitoba and the City of Portage la Prairie have proven to be an excellent host for Canada’s National Junior A Championship, and the Portage Terriers are proven competitors and champions in previous events."

Co-Chair of the Centennial Cup Host Committee Dale Deschouwer says they already have a plan in place from 2020, so they are hoping things will going over smoothly.
