The City of Portage la Prairie isn't ignoring the proliferation of mosquitoes this summer. Councillor Preston Meier outlines the fogging program.

"I think most people know we did one full spray a couple of weeks ago," says Meier. "We do actually monitor the numbers right now, and of course, we can't do any spraying until they actually reach a certain level. Then we have to take it to the province. Once we get to that high level, then we give two days notice. It does take two nights to spray the city, weather permitting."

Meier humorously notes the mosquitoes do seem like killers, and we can expect anything in 2020, with the record that this year has shown of itself so far. However, he adds, they are planning a second spraying.

"We do get on the island," continues Meier. "We do get into every part of town. So, really keep an eye out on Portage Online News and the City website, because the only thing we ask is that when the fogging truck does come by, just close your windows. You may apply for a 90-metre spray-free area if you want to go that way, as well. So, just keep an eye on the news and on the city website."
