To make things easier on municipal election day this fall, the City of Portage la Prairie is urging citizens to head to their website to become a registered voter.

Manager of Administration and Senior Election Official Diane Van Aert explains why.

"We found the cost of that it wasn't as effective as we would've liked. It's hard to catch people at home when the enumerators go around, so we didn't have a complete voters list."

Van Aert says currently the city uses the 2016 provincial voter's list, as well as their own tax records and utility account data. She says people should let them know if they've recently moved to the city or within the city, or have turned 18 since 2016, so they can update the voter's list.

The online registration form is simple to fill out and submits directly to Van Aert.

She notes if you're not a registered voter, it'll be a longer process filling out forms on voting day, October 24th.
