Those who drive East down Saskatchewan Avenue should prepare to detour from their regular route on Tuesday. A water main break has forced the city to close off traffic from 3rd St NE to 2nd St NE. Commuters will have to bypass this water main break near MacDonald's Sporting Goods by heading to Lorne Avenue or Cresent Road before returning to Saskatchewan Avenue.

Manager of Public Works Brian Taylor told PortageOnline that this was a "major" water main break, which the city was first notified of at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Taylor noted that water services have been shut off between 3rd St NE to Royal Road N along Saskatchewan Avenue East.

According to the City of Portage la Prairie, water services will be restored by the end of the day Tuesday. However, they have no timeline for when traffic will resume in the affected area.
