This Christmas weekend is one of the largest Christian times of celebration and worship of the year. Portage la Prairie churches are honouring and celebrating in various ways, and Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Bird is no exception.

"Usually, along that week, we consider it like a family occasion and let the families celebrate in their way," says Bird. "But we do have, on the Lord's Day, that Christmas Day, a morning service beginning at 11:00 a.m. and then the evening service, which is broadcast over CFRY in the evening at 7:00."

He outlines what it's all about, including the general message of the well-known verse, John 3:16.

"'For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved,' through that well-known text as we noted, 'Therefore, God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life,'" continues Bird. "So, God became flesh, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came into this world -- this sin-darkened world -- brought light into it and truth. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. We celebrate that and extend that invitation to others to look to Him."

He adds they focus on the Word and celebrate the birth in hymns and songs.

"We lift up the name and worship Him and give all the glory to God through Jesus Christ our Lord," says Bird. "We celebrate Christmas in this joyous season. Blessings to one and all that they might indeed find that saving grace and mercies through a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ."
