The Portage la Prairie School Division's facing some challenges in 2016.

That's from Board Chair Murray McLenehan, who says one of those is advancements in literacy and numeracy.

"And our staff has identified this concern longbefore it was known as a concern, and have been actively supporting the provincial program by committee participation for some time."

McLenehan notes the budget process has begun for 2016, and it's something School Board members take very seriously.

"We are one of the largest employers in this area, and we only get one chance -- one chance -- to get this right. Morally and legally, our goal is to provide the necessary tools so that the highest quality of education can be delivered and achieved. And we must review what is necessary to maintain that level of education, and yet minimize the financial impact to our community."
