Central Plains Female Capitals opened the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League regular season with a loss in Winnipeg last night.

They fell 6-3 to the Avros. Megan Ferg had a pair of goals for the Caps, with a single from Halle Edwards.

Coach Ferdi Nelissen feels despite the score, it was a close game.

"The shots on net were 24-20," he says, "We got behind early, and then were chasing. Actually, we thought we had played fairly well, and (it) probably deserved to be a closer game."

Next up for the Caps is a showcase in Morden this weekend.

Meanwhile, in the Manitoba AAA Midget League, Central Plains Capitals were beaten 6-2 by Winnipeg Wild. Alex Cattani and Mitchell Wilson scored for the Caps. Riley Sveistrup was in goal for Central Plains.

They're back in action on Saturday night, visiting Southwest Cougars in Souris.
