The RCMP are investigating a fatal car/train collision yesterday afternoon near Austin.

Portage RCMP and emergency crews responded to a call around 5 o'clock. It's reported a northbound pick-up truck on PR 34 collided with an eastbound CN freight train.

The driver was an adult male, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Three children were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries. They're believed to be the victim's children.

The Mounties say the rail crossing is believed to be controlled with lights and crossing arms. Visibility was poor due to blowing snow.

The man's name hasn't been released.
