Mental health continues to be a hot button topic and a conversation that can be difficult to have.

Which is why events like the Truck Pull for Mental Health during the demolition derby at the Carman Country Fair Saturday are so vital, says Pull Organizer Tyler Russel, as there aren't many places that support mental health in rural areas.

"It's one of those subjects that are tough to talk about with a lot of people, but once you get past that, everybody realizes it's a good cause. It's great to see everybody come out in a physical form like this, and raise a few bucks for some stuff going on locally in town."

Now in its third year, twenty teams took part in the truck pull, and although totals aren't in yet, Russel says if previous years are any indication they could raise upwards of $10,000.

"We were promoting a couple of days ago, and lots of people came up and told us how important it was, which really surprised us... how many people came up and said how great it was," says Russel. He notes with how many people continue to struggle with mental health challenges, it's positive to see how support continues to grow in the community.

Funding will go to Carman's Mental Health Committee, and will be used to provide free mental health courses by the Thrive Learning Centre.
