A career change is behind the upcoming closure of Gray's Welding in Portage.

After 17 years of operation owner Bill Plett has been recruited by the ACC in Brandon as a welding instructor.

He wasn't intending on removing the business from Portage but without any buyers Plett is forced to auction the building's contents.  The closure has yet to sink in, being overly occupied in preparing for his new position.

Plett calls his daily customer interaction the highlight of his career in Portage and credits the city for keeping his business rolling.

For now its doors will remain open until the end of this month.
