The 2023 Provincial Scottie's Tournament of Hearts is going strong in East St. Paul.

Carberry's Team Calvert is proud of their performance as they improved throughout the tournament and picked up their first win in their final game, beating Team Watling 7-1. Skip Alyssa Calvert says this is her sixth time competing in the Scottie's but her first time with this group.

"This is our second year together. Unfortunately, our normal second broke her hand earlier this season, so we have our super solid spare, Kelly Hofer playing lead for us," Calvert continues. "I guess it's our first event as this team but the three of us (Calvert, Stacey Irwin, and Roz Taylor) have played together for two years."

The skip says the team's main focus was to have fun but notes, with some extra experience under their belt, they'll be looking to become provincial champions in 2024.

While Calvert has become a Scottie's veteran, she notes that first game is always a little nerve-wracking.

"The very first time you step on the ice, it's always super exciting to slide across the Scottie's rings and all of that," says Calvert. "It's really fun to see it through Kelly's eyes this year since it's her first Scottie's. I think the pressure is what you make it but we choose to go out there, have fun, play like we know we can, and see what happens."

Calvert says she's been a resident of Carberry for the last eight years and thanks the Carberry Curling Club for allowing them to practice at their facility so often.
