It was a good year for Manitoba's canola growers.

Canola production in the province rose over 20 per cent to a record high 3.1 million tonnes.

Delaney Ross Burtnack is the executive director with Manitoba Canola Growers.

She gave her thoughts on the past year.

"Certainly in the middle of the year, it was getting a little dry and people were getting concerned about whether canola would do well this year. It was a pleasant surprise in most areas that it was average to better than average."

Manitoba set a new record in terms of yield with an average of 44 bushels per acre.

Ross Burtnack is expecting acres to remain stable in 2018, in the range of about 3 million.
