Once again the Special Olympics is being assisted with much-appreciated funding from Tim Horton's for their programs in Portage la Prairie.

Law Enforcement Torch Run with Special Olympics manager Darren Anderson outlines the new donut campaign.

"This time it's in prime donuts season -- the winter," says Anderson. "It's the Choose to Include campaign where we'll be selling donuts throughout January 28th to 30th. Proceeds from every donut go to Special Olympics programs across Canada and, especially, in Manitoba."

He notes they're making a special donut for the effort.

"They're going to be available this weekend and is called something like the Special-O Donut," says Anderson. "Proceeds from each donut sold will go toward our program. Special Olympics provides year-round training and sport opportunities for people living with intellectual disabilities. We go from ages 2 to 92. We're very much a sport-for-life organization and, obviously, that's a little bit challenging in the last couple years, but we've definitely found ways to get through that stuff. We're looking forward to being back up and running very soon."

Anderson says it's basically all about simply buying a donut to support the program.

"If you want to take it a step further, there's the mobile contest," adds Anderson. "You can snap a few photos and put it on social media #ChooseToInclude and tagging @SpecialOManitoba. It's kind of low impact on our end as far as getting the boots to the ground, but it's a great awareness campaign that's going to really touch every corner of the province for us. I think you can win a $50 Tim Horton gift card."

Anderson says they're very thankful for Tim Horton's decision to them on as a partner and they're looking forward to another year of a very special donut.

He notes it's all part of seeing our communities become more inclusive.
