Portage la Prairie School Division buses won't be on the road this afternoon, due the stormy weather we're experiencing.

That decision was made this morning, which triggers the billet program, so kids whose parents can't make it into town have a place to stay tonight.

Assistant Superintendent Hazen Barrett notes there's always been good response from people offering their homes. He says they often don't need many billets because parents usually find a way to pick up their kids.

Barrett adds conditions are too risky for buses to be on the road. A number of weather factors are considered, including visibility and temperature, plus trial runs by empty buses.

Day care vans also aren't running this afternoon, so parents will have to make arrangements to have kids picked up at school closing.
