It took several tries for Brendan Bottcher of Edmonton, but he's finally the Canad Inns Men's classic champion.

His rink defeated Kevin Koe's foursome from Calgary 6-5 tonight at the Portage la Prairie Curling Club.

Bottcher says it feels great to win an event that supports the sport so well. He feels it was the little things that got them to the winner's circle.

"We actually didn't start out the week that great," he says, "We weren't feeling amazing, but we managed to get through the A Side, which meant we had some time off. We had a good practice in the middle, and then I think we really felt a lot sharper going into these last few playoff games."

Bottcher led the game 6-3 heading into the 7th end, but Koe's team struck for 2, cutting the lead to 6-5, going into the 8th. Bottcher says the team wasn't concerned.

"As far as we were concerned, that's still a good scoreboard for us," he says, "We're one-up coming home, we make all our shots, we win, and worst case, we go into an extra. So that's not a bad situation for us. We played a good game. We scored a lot of deuces, they scored a lot of deuces, it was a battle."

A disappointed Kevin Koe says Bottcher controlled the entire game.

"They were in front all the way, and we didn't play great, especially the last end," he says, "Disappointing, but it was a good week. We played well overall -- today we had a few bad breaks, we missed some shots we needed, and that was enough."

Bottcher's rink splits $18,000 for the victory, while $10,000 goes to Team Koe.

Canad Inns CEO Dan Lucier says it's always exciting to host the event, adding by all accounts, everything went smoothly.
