Local bodybuilder Bailey Green was less than three months away from an upcoming competition when COVID-19 pushed all events back.

The original date for the male physique competition was May 31, but it was ultimately postponed until September (and has since been postponed again until October) and at that point, Green decided to shift his focus to a different tournament. Green says it’s a very tough time for those who are competing.

He talks about how he’s been able to stay in shape through these unprecedented circumstances.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have access to a home gym,” says Green. “Not a whole lot has really changed for me other than the lack of access to certain equipment but you just have to make do with what you have. I go for runs every day, I do a lot of bodyweight movements, and I have bands.”

Green says for those who have been wanting to workout from home, ordering bands and/or dumbbells is a good place to start. He adds staying positive is extremely key to maintaining and reaching any sort of goal in these times.

Over 25 male physique competitions have been postponed or cancelled according to Green. He says, because of this, he is just going to shift his focus to competition in 2021. He describes how he has been able to maintain his fitness and motivation without the typical routine.

“A couple of weeks ago I kind of lost my motivation a little bit,” Green explains. “I had a good chat with my coach and it’s really about setting short term goals. So, I have a specific weight I want to hit in two weeks and I work hard until I hit that weight, once I hit that weight and that goal, I set a new goal. You really just have to set short-term goals up until you hit your big goal.”

Green says for those who may not be as lucky as him in having access to a home gym, focusing on flexibility, mobility, and cardiovascular is a good way to stay in shape.
