Lori Blight's been with the Portage and District Arts Centre in Portage la Prairie for several years and just announced she's leaving. Blight explains her decision.

"I've just decided to retire, and I'm going to spend a little time traveling, and I hope to do a little more gardening. Just doing a little more things that I enjoy."

She recounts her positions with the centre.

"I started here in 2005. So, I've been here about ten and a half years. I was part time when I first started. I was the marketing and special events coordinator for about ten and a half years. And then I've been the executive director for the last three years. So, I've been full time for the last three years."

When asked about her highlights over the years, Blight says, "I really enjoyed all the exhibitions that we've been able to show here; Celebration of the Arts, that's always a fun night -- that's our big fundraiser and gala. That's actually coming up in May. I'll be doing one more of those. And then of course our dance recital. That's always an exciting time, too. We have over 200 children in our dance program. And they just get so excited. They just like to be onstage performing."

Blight adds, "I've really enjoyed working here. I've enjoyed the staff that I've had the opportunity to work with. It's been a lot of fun. It's a job where you require a lot of high energy, because there's always something new happening here, and lots of activities. So, it's been fun, but it's time to move on."
