It's not a win, but it's a start.

Last night in the Winnipeg Women's Soccer League, the Portage Blaze fought to a 1-1 draw with the MJ Stars.

Blaze Coach, Bryan Mintenko, says his club put in a much better performance last night as opposed to their first encounter with the Stars earlier this year, which they lost 3-0. He notes Portage managed sustainable pressure, outshooting their Second Division counterparts but the Stars do have a speedy forward who netted the game's first goal in the opening half. Mintenko adds that despite trailing a skilled Stars team, he told his club to fight back and they did just that, tying the game with 8 minutes left in the contest on a goal by Michelle Bernard. He adds that he is quite proud of Portage's resiliency.

The Blaze will try to add to their momentum when they take on Aftica at John Blumberg field 9 next Wednesday.
