Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains has reflected on their 2022 as a whole. The group continues to serve Portage la Prairie, the Rural Municipality of Portage, Oakville, MacGregor, Gladstone, and also had a program running in schools in Austin for a little bit.

Coming out of the pandemic, Executive Director Dawn Froese says it was important to do what they've always done best: pair mentors up with mentees.

"The best thing is, coming out of COVID, or at least all the restrictions, in 2022, we were able to mentor 79 children," says Froese. "I think that is amazing."

BBBS was able to put on more events than they have in previous years, which is a big benefit to the big and little brothers and sisters. Froese says they teamed up with the Portage Terriers and other groups to give kids some great experiences.

"We finished piloting our Big Play program, which is a floor hockey program run on Mondays with some of the Terriers. So, that was a highlight for us," says Froese. "We were able to take the kids in our program on some exciting adventures, like swimming. We also went to the Reptile Garden in Westman. That was pretty amazing and they quite liked that. Koats for Kids was a highlight. We were able to give out a lot of coats!"

Looking ahead, Froese says they are beginning to plan for the 50th Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters Central Plains in 2024.
