The Portage Bear Clan is looking to add to their organization that helps build and support the community.

Coordinator, Manon Timshel says that the organization has been running since January 2020, right before the pandemic had struck and are now looking to grow.

"It's been over two years, and we're trying to get some new blood," says Timshel. "We've done so many amazing things during COVID, and as we come out of it, we really want to be able to hit the ground running and do some amazing fund-raising events to expand our patrols. But, we can't do that without leaders and without a larger team of leaders."

She notes that the Bear Clan has positions open for their leadership committee and indigenous women council.

According to the Coordinator, the Indigenous Women's Council oversees the kind of governance of the Bear Clan and provides guidance and direction. Whereas the Leadership Committee is composed of people who run the ship.

The Bear Clan asks that people willing to join should be prepared to give about a four-hour commitment a month.

"Usually, one meeting and one patrol a month works out to about four hours," explains Timshel. "We normally encourage people to come out and patrol with us. See if they like it and see if they're interested in getting involved. Learn more about what we're doing and see if it's a good fit."
