Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for a brief dip for temperatures as various systems make their way across the Prairies.

Warning preparedness meteorologist Natalie Hasell says it may not be extremely cold, but it's definitely colder than what we've seen.

"We have a low-pressure system traveling from west to east. A frontal structure associated with it will sweep across southern Manitoba as the flow changes to be out of the north, with nothing to stop that cold air from coming to us," says Hasell. "We'll have three nights of colder temperatures and definitely colder temperatures than we've had in a while."

The low going into tonight is expected to be around -20 while tomorrow we'll see -27. Wednesday warms up a tad to -19 for a low. The highs for both Wednesday and Thursday is around -15.

Hasell notes that things will change going into the weekend, and depending where you are, there could be some poor driving conditions.

"We see a little bit of a shift in the wind direction on Friday, which will allow things to warm up some, and we'll also see a little bit more snow," says Hasell. "There's a chance of flurries, at least, in the forecast right now. Depending on where you are in southern Manitoba, that might actually be more of a snow thing than a chance, but Portage right now is in the chance of flurries category."

As of now, for Portage la Prairie, there is a 60 per cent chance of flurries Saturday night, as well as all day Sunday, and early Monday.
