Team Canada may have a Portage representative when they head to Wisconsin for the 2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship next month.
The U18 hockey program announced their top 40 prospects who will be in attendance for their selection camp and the only Manitoban player invited is Portage's own Oceane Asham.
The local forward was invited to a camp in the same vein at the beginning of this year as the U18 Women's World Championships were initially slated for February of 2022 but were cancelled due to COVID-19. Asham didn't make the cut that time as they trimmed the roster from 40 down to 23.
With another kick at the can, this time around Asham is hoping to crack that final roster and represent her country. She has represented her province a number of times throughout the years, as recently as last year, where she led Team Manitoba in scoring at the Western Regional Women's U18 Championship.

The Balmoral Hall Blazer put up over a point per game this season as she scored 22 goals and dished out 12 assists in 34 games of action.
The 17-year-old will be taking part in Team Canada's Top 40 Selection Camp from May 24-29 in Calgary for the opportunity to take part in the U18 Women's World Championships from June 6-13.
