Earlier this week the Manitoba Moose let it be known that former Winnipeg Jet, Scott Arniel, would be leading the team as their new head coach. Now, Arniel is offering his thoughts on how his past experiences will help him guide the American Hockey League club on the road that lay ahead.

This marks Arniel's first stint as a pro or semi-pro head coach but he isn't exactly new behind the bench. He was an assistant coach for the Moose in two seasons, and he is coming off a four year run as an assistant coach, under Lindy Ruff, with the Buffalo Sabres. Not surprisingly, Arniel says that he has picked up a few things from the Jack Adams Trophy winner for the NHL's top coach, that he will apply to his new position. He feels Ruff was a great inspiration to him because he is player's coach, in that Ruff knows how to get optimum performance from his roster and he's well respected. In addition, Arniel notes other important traits of an effective coach that Ruff possesses are that he is very truthful and straightforward with nothing to hide.

As a player, other than the Winnipeg Jets, the left wing lended his talents to the Sabres and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League, as well as playing for Manitoba, Houston and San Diego of the then IHL.
