The RM of Armstrong recently hired an Economic Development Officer. Linda Morgan was selected for the role, and Reeve Jack Cruise says the RM has been pushing to add the position to the RM for some time.

"This economic development officer is something we've been talking about doing since I was first elected actually, a year and a half ago. But we finally got it done at our council meeting in February. We just hired her, and to start off with it's a part-time position, actually. But we're hoping if she can find things to keep herself busy that it'll expand more and more."

He feels the RM needs such an office.

"We were hoping it's pretty important. I guess we'll see how things play out. Initially we want her to get started working with some of the community groups, and some ideas, and council's got some ideas. And actually at our interview the other day she's got some pretty interesting ideas she'd like to work on. We're new at it, so we're just not sure, but we hope it goes well."

Some of the ideas they're planning for the officer's work includes giving lots away to those planning to build a house, as well as beautifying the RM through government grants.
