A couple from Arkansas who fled the United States to avoid facing charges was found in Portage la Prairie yesterday after a two month search.

Chad and Stephanie Voelkel of Mena, Arkansas were both arrested, and their four children were taken by Canadian officials.

According to authorities, Chad was wanted in Polk County for failure to appear in court and was out of jail on bond. He was facing a rape charge dating back to January of 2019. After a warrant was issued for him, the couple left the U.S. It's unknown as to when they arrived in Portage.

Stephanie was arrested on suspicion of felony permitting abuse of a minor. It's also unknown as to when they will be extradited back to the U.S.

The RCMP and Canada Border Services were among the groups who helped with the investigation.
