The roads of Portage la Prairie can be rife with danger, especially when it comes to potholes and other road hazards. With the warmer weather mixed interspersed with colder nights, it forms ideal conditions for the exposure of the dreaded pothole. Fixed Operations Manager at Craig Dunn Joel McPhail gives us some tips on how to keep our vehicles safe from this menace of the spring.

"The biggest thing we can do right now to protect our vehicles, is honestly just slow down and be prepared for the conditions ahead," says McPhail. "By slowing down, you're going to have a little bit more control over your vehicle and not worry about some of the hard bumps and banging around that is going to happen when you're driving too fast."

McPhail also spoke about some of the potential dangers to vehicles from things like potholes.

"First off, you have to worry about your tires and wheels, that stuff is going to be the first things that are banging against things." details McPhail. "Then we look more at our suspension stuff as well because if we are going over these bumps too hard and our stuff is moving too quickly it starts to wear out quickly or in the worst case, actually bends it which can result in costly repairs. The way the conditions are on the roads right now, they're pushing people's vehicles too, then you have to be careful about not bumping into the car beside you or the car that's coming towards you."

McPhail also adds that much of the damage we do to our vehicles this time of year can be mitigated by simply using common sense and driving appropriately to the road conditions.
