On January 22 at about 2:15 a.m., Amaranth RCMP were on patrol when a vehicle travelling south on Highway 50 in Amaranth was seen without proper plates. A traffic stop was initiated.

The officer approached the vehicle to find individual baggies of drugs inside. Two women who were in the vehicle were taken into custody. When the vehicle was searched, the officer found multiple baggies of a substance that appeared to be crystal methamphetamine throughout the vehicle. A scale and other drug paraphernalia were also found.

Both women are charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. The driver, 30, was released with a court date. The passenger, 32-year-old Martina Richard, has been remanded. Both accused are from Sandy Bay First Nation.
