Plenty of walkers showed up yesterday to support the IG Wealth Management Walk For Alzheimer's.  The walk took place at Island Park and featured a barbecue and live music.

North Central Coordinator for the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba Chrystal Landreville talks about where the money from the walk goes.

"All of the money that we raise for the fundraising stays in Manitoba," Landreville says. "It goes toward the programs and services that the Alzheimer's society offers to people with dementia, family members and support staff."

Landreville notes that the walk has been going on in Manitoba for 27 years. It's a critical part of fundraising because 85 per cent of the Alzheimer's Society funds come from donations, with the other 15 per cent coming from the Government.

As for the walk that took place in Portage, Landreville says it was a success.

"I'm very happy with the turnout and very thanks for the community support for the Alzheimer's Society."

They raised just over $3,000.
