Just over three weeks ago, Portage la Prairie hockey fans got to see Ray Bourque, and the Boston Bruins alumni play the Portage Terriers alumni.

It was organized by the Portage Rotary Club to celebrate the Terriers' 50th anniversary. Rotarian Preston Meier says the weekend was successful.

"With everything all said and done, and with the great support of all the sponsors, and all the people that were around," he says, "We're proud to say that we're going to be able to give back roughly $62,000, split between the Portage Terriers, and the remaining 25% goes back to the Rotary Club of Portage. Which, at the end of the day, as we all know, will go right back into the community, into the various events that we fund."

Meier has nothing but praise for the Bruins players.

"They were almost like your best friends," he says, "The way they invested themselves back into the community -- they gave it their all. As we took them back to the airport, the comments they kept saying to us was, they couldn't believe how nice the people in Portage were, what first class facilities that we have, and just the general feeling that they had, and the acceptance that they had while they were here. So that was pretty cool to hear from that perspective."
