MPI has been providing some great finance-related news off and on throughout the negative cloud with which the pandemic has overshadowed all of us. They're doing it again with yet a third round of rebate cheques.

Spokesperson Brian Smiley outlines the latest.

"It's good news for Manitoba Public Insurance customers," says Smiley. "Roughly 200,000 COVID-19 rebate cheques are being sent to Canada Post this week -- 40,000 alone Monday. Folks should be receiving their cheques in the mail in days coming."

Smiley notes a dedicated team has been handling the rebates cheques.

"In total, 680,000 cheques will be issued in the coming weeks," continues Smiley. "The total rebate amount is $312 million. We expect all these cheques to be mailed by mid-February and this is the third rebate round of cheques in less than two years. So, again, this is the direct result of reduced traffic collision costs relating to the fewer, less traffic volumes on the roads during the COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions."

The rebate is calculated on the Basic Autopac premiums paid between November 22, 2020, and December 9, 2021, and is expected to be about 27 per cent of the customer’s annual Basic Autopac premium. Rebate amounts of $10 or less will be credited to the customer’s account.
