A Snowfall Warning that could affect travel has been issued for the Portage la Prairie area.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts 10-20 cm of snow beginning Wednesday afternoon and ending overnight.

According to ECCC, a low-pressure system will move into the region with an organized area of snow that will bring accumulating snow. This system has the potential for bands of more vigorous snow production. These bands will allow for significant snowfall rates, causing visibility to drop to near zero and snowfall amounts to add up quickly in some locations.

This will be a reasonably quick-moving system, and conditions will improve on Thursday. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some parts of the province.

There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas due to the snowfall. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
